Ironwoman Karla Gilbert recently took out the “The Doctor SUP Challenge” in Perth, Western Australia. This was one of the premiere SUP events in the country and on January 18, 2014, spectators saw a hot, windy battle between many of Australia’s finest.
It was a close call during the Open Women’s race between fellow Gold Coasters, Karla Gilbert and Angie Jackson. The two were paddling a similar pace almost the entire 27.5 km from Rottnest Island to Sorrento Beach, however Karla dug deep on her Naish Javelin 14’0” X26 LE and claimed the win by 49 seconds.
