FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Haiku, HI, 10/14/16 – Kody Kerbox, professional stand-up paddler (SUP) and resident of Haiku, Maui is set to retire from competition on the Waterman League Stand Up World Tour & Series, on October 16th. His retirement comes after the conclusion of Kody’s fifth year on the professional SUP world tour.
Kody Kerbox, 22, joined the tour as a high school student at the age of 17 after two years of competing locally in the new sport of Stand Up Paddling. After making his debut at the La Torche Pro 2011, emerging as trials winner and progressing to the quarter final, Kody ranked in the top 10 every year of his time on tour. Kody won the Alagoas Grand Slam 2014, and finished #2 in the world for racing & surfing combined in 2013. Kody made 8 finals during his five-year career.
“Although I will no longer be competing on the WL surf and racing tours, I am not walking away from the sport of Stand-Up Paddling. My goal is to remain competitive in the local Hawaiian ocean race scene and key U.S events over the coming years,” Kody says. In addition to the Maliko run and Hawaiian channel crossings, Kody will now focus on the Colombia Gorge Paddle Challenge and the Pacific Paddle Games.
Kody now looks to earn a Kinesiology & Rehab science degree at UH Manoa to learn how to prevent and recover from injuries.
“I am excited to learn new things and want to teach the next generation of ocean athletes how to preserve their health and prevent injuries while doing what they love. Also by building my knowledge, I am giving myself the best chance to extend my competitive career.”
