September 23, 2015, Cape Hatteras, North Carolina—The world’s best kitesurfers brought their game this weekend for three days of strapless kitesurfing on five- to six-foot surf at the 2015 Cape Hatteras Wave Classic. With spectacular conditions and spot-on technique, Jalou Langeree advanced to the final with her 9m Naish Alana kite—successfully defending her title of women’s waveriding champion for the second year in a row.
The waves started small on the first day, improving steadily throughout the contest, seeing as much as five- to seven-foot waves with hollow, barreling sections and 20-knot northeast winds. According to Jalou, “the only difficulty was staying upwind with the strong current—but it was manageable.” She adds, “I had a real nice, high backroll in the finals, which was nice to stick and get out of the way.
Overall it was a great event, with all contestants pushing the limits of strapless kitesurfing. “It was great to come back to Hatteras for the second edition of the Cape Hatteras Wave Classic. Just like last year, Hatteras proved to be a great spot for a wave riding event,” says Jalou after her big win.
Jalou’s immediate goals are to improve her riding by surfing bigger swells, pull more tricks while waveriding and, of course, get her first barrel. Her long-term goal—aside from winning all her contests—is to put women’s kitesurfing on the map!
Thanks REAL Water Sports for another great edition of the Wave Classic, and great job Jalou on another seasoned win!
