Daniel Reinhart and Susanne Lier Victorious at the 2015 N1SCO World Championships
August 28–30, 2015, Ijburg, Amsterdam — Home to over 160 canals and a UNESCO World Heritage site, Amsterdam proved a charming backdrop for 3rd annual N1SCO World Championships. 55 men and 26 women traveled to the Netherlands from 15 nations to compete in this highly anticipated event on their Naish ONE inflatable SUPs. Among them were Swiss residents Susanne Lier who earned 1st for the overall women’s spot and Dani Reinhart, who came out as the overall men’s victor for the 2nd year in a row.
Born from the incredible versatility and performance of the Naish ONE inflatable racing board, N1SCO events offer fun, fair and cost-effective competition formats for all contestants, regardless of size or experience. Race formats are exciting, accessible simple to setup and—most importantly—fun! Events showcase different paddling skills and abilities and include anything from sprints and intermediate long distance to long distance and relays. Held annually, the N1SCO SUP World Championships changes locations each year, giving participants the opportunity to test their skills in new environments and conditions among a group of like-minded individuals.
Perfectly on cue, weather turned to sunny skies for all three days of the competition, just in time for the festivities to begin on Friday evening. The warm-up on the eve of competition hosted over 60 entrants who enjoyed the very special experience of paddling through the historic canals of downtown Amsterdam, keeping them limber and geared up for competition on Saturday morning.
European SUP Champ and Team Naish rider, Casper Steinfath, Naish Brand Ambassador Chuck Patterson and Robby “the Boss” Naish both attended to cheer on contestants and offer up helpful tips—especially regarding how best to navigate the 8k Long Distance, the 400 m Intermediate Distance and the 100 m Sprints, which featured no buoy turns for this year. Competition was pretty consistent for the top 3 in the women’s divisions, seeing Susanne Lier battling it out with Emma Reijmerink of the Netherlands for the top spot and Carla Schellart close behind. Taking 1st place in both the Sprint and Intermediate Distance and 2nd in the Long Distance earned Susanne 1st place overall for women. The men’s division also saw some healthy competition with Andreas Svensson of Sweden taking 1st place in the Men’s Intermediate Distance, Tom Ameije earning 1st in the Men’s Long Distance and Dani Reinhart taking 1st place in the Men’s Sprint race for the overall win.
All-in-all, the N1SCO World Championships proved a huge success, with so many enthusiastic racers traveling from remote distances across the globe to take part in the fun amidst scenic Amsterdam. Contestants were cheered on from balconies and houseboats by enthusiastic onlookers and celebrated at the end of Saturday’s festivities with catering by “The Spot” and music from the Red Bull event car—all under the light of a brilliant full moon. Summing up the experience from his own perspective, Casper Steinfath mentioned, “It was really an amazing experience to be a part of Naish’s N1SCO SUP World Championship in Amsterdam! The atmosphere at the event was all about team spirit and having fun—both on the beach and in the water. I really enjoyed meeting new and old friends from across the world and exploring Amsterdam on the Naish One. Congrats to all the winners and I can’t wait for next year!”
Congratulations to all that attended this incredible event with their Naish ONE inflatables! We look forward to seeing you at the next N1SCO event.
