Casper Steinfath Begins 2018 Eurotour with Podium at Battle of the Coast in Holland
May 5, 2018, Sandvoort, Netherlands – Naish’s Casper Steinfath began his 2018 racing season on the Naish Maliko 12’6”, with a first place finish in the sprints and a second place in the technical races at the Battle of the Coast, the first stop of the 2018 Eurotour.
With ten stops across eight countries, the Eurotour has established itself as a premier tour in the SUP community, drawing participation from Europe’s elite paddlers After spending the winter in Denmark training for the Viking Crossing, Casper was ready to get back to competition.
“After a long frigid winter at home breaking boundaries in Scandinavia, it was awesome stepping back into the competition arena and matching up against Europe’s finest at the first stop of the 2018 Euro Tour. Since completing the Viking Crossing almost 2 months ago I have spent many hours training on my Maliko, so I was stoked to get this preseason chance to test the fruits of my training.
After spending a day in Amsterdam hosting a Viking Adventure SUP Race clinic and getting lost on the many water canals I made my way to the beach side town of Sandvoort, where the first stop of the Euro Tour. The sun was shinning all weekend and despite the ocean turning itself into a flat lake we had an awesome weekend of racing and good times with the dutch and European SUP community.
To be honest I was not expecting a 1st in the Sprints and a 2nd in the Technical Race, but I welcomed it as a pleasant surprise! The board worked great and I especially loved the new Naish Maliko’s speed and agility in the sprints and technical race. It shot off the start like a rocket and kept me in the game all the way to the finish line!
Overall I view this weekend’s race as a very positive indication for the rest of the season. My gear was on point, but I have some more work to do on my body before I kick off my World Title campaign on the APP World Tour in July. I can’t wait for more!”
