LessonsLesson Location and Surf Conditions
Naish Hawaii is located in Kailua; a residential town on the windward side of Oahu (about 30 minutes away from the Honolulu International Airport). Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Sailors: Kailua Beach Kailua is an ideal place, with five miles of white sand beach, easy access to the water and no crowds. Kailua is an excellent location for teaching these two great sports. Winter conditions in Kailua are varible from light trades and calm water to strong north wind and big waves out at the reef. Kailua remains one of the most consistant "sailable" spots in the winter. This is possible because Kailua can accept wind from almost any direction. A shorty wetsuit is all you'll ever need on Oahu; the average air temperature is 80 degrees Fahrenheit and the average water temperature is 75 degrees Fahrenheit! Conditions vary on the large bay, from smooth and calm, to slalom speed racing. The tradewinds blow side on-shore, and the most used sails in our windsurfing rental fleet during the summer are the 6.0 and 7.5 sq. meter. Also "Jump City" (about 1/4 mile off shore) provides a perfect place for entry level wave sailors to gain confidence before attempting places like Diamond Head. Jump City is great for the intermediate Kite Boarders giving some great launches. Advanced Sailors: Diamond Head The south swells during the summer make Diamond Head one of the most popular summer sailing spots -- it's just a thirty minute drive from Kailua. Excellent for wave riding and jumping. Diamond Head has waves year-round with peak months during the summer. Most local sailors use a 5.2 or 5.0 sq. meter sail. If you come during spring, however, you will probably need a smaller sail. Recommended board size for DH is an 8'5" with a little faster wave rocker line. Naish boards are all over the beach. The North Shore The North Shore of Oahu has extreme wavesailing conditions from October until May for expert windsurfers . Oahu's North Shore provides some of the best wave riding conditions in the world. Wind can range from variable to 25+ mph in the winter. During the summer the surf is flat and the trades usually blow harder than Kailua, providing some fun slalom sailing & Kiteboarding. It's an hour's drive from Kailua. Mokuleia is a very popular spot for the expert/advanced kiteboarders only. Lesson Rates - Lessons are scheduled daily at 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:30p.m., & 3:00 p.m..
